slow down everyone you're movin too fast, frames can't catch you when you're moving like that.

to the eighteen year old girls who come to byu just to get married--grow up! oh wait, you will. you may not realize right now while you're living in your cushy dorms that your parents are paying for and that get you an automatic more-than-anyone-should-eat-if-they-want-to-be-healthy meal plan, but there is more to being married than a pretty dress. obviously, i'm not married. and some would say waiting for a missionary is just as crazy. but i've known him for almost two years and dated him for almost half of that time. not nearly as ridiculous, especially when you consider that he really is my best friend--not in the cliche way. but going from strangers to engaged in under three weeks is just ridiculous. especially when you're 18 and still a baby. there's this thing called money. do you know how to make it? or spend it? there's school. will you finish? or did you honestly come here with no other purpose than to marry the first guy who told you you're beautif...

get it together whenever you're ready...

I was walking out of a class today when I overheard two girls behind me, also in my class. They were talking about the story of King Solomon and the baby and trying to decide who its real mother was by cutting it in half, etc, etc. Anyway, the one girl was telling the other that her brother was in a class in law school with a Jewish professor, and that there's a Jewish version of the King Solomon story. HELLO. The King Solomon story IS a Jewish version. It's in the Old Testament, where everyone followed the law and waited for the Messiah. So whether they were directly descended from Judah or not, they were Jewish. I don't understand how people don't realize these things. Honestly, saying there's a Jewish version of King Solomon ranks higher on the ignorance charts than not knowing that there's a difference between male and female circumcision. Both are well up there though. And a twenty minute discussion in my humanities of Islam class trying to explain the diff...

And while you wonder "how's this gonna end?" I only want it to begin

So, the summer has passed and another year of school is about to start. It's been an interesting thing, that even after going to school all summer I feel like I haven't been in class forever. Part of it must be that the last few weeks have been ridiculously long. Take that back, the fourteenth and fifteenth went far too fast. And then I guess the week in Salt Lake went relatively quickly. But the break still seems like too long. Boredom isn't as fun when there is nobody to share it with. And I miss Alex. This summer I learned more than any summer I can remember. I relearned how to pay attention in class. I learned how to ask questions and discuss, and actually contribute to the classes I was taking--this didn't really take effect until summer term I suppose. I also learned a whole lot about life. I learned how to cook with someone, and how to not get upset if something went wrong. I relearned how to play games and do puzzles for hours on end, laughing all the way throug...

I'm so utterly bored. It's been months since I've been alone after 4 pm. Okay, so that's a bit of an exaggeration, it's not even been a week since Alex went exit polling, but before that it's been months. So it's really weird that he's in Missouri for a week. And that suddenly I can't figure out what to do with myself. What's the point in getting homework done when there's no "boyfriend coming over" deadline? Besides, you know, getting good grades. Anyway, Alex got his mission call to Argentina. Be excited. Because it's exciting. In a completely bittersweet way, naturally. He leaves Provo mid-August, comes back in October to go to the MTC on October 22. My mom's birthday and his brother Mikal's birthday. Mik's not happy--he thinks he won't get any presents. There were new ducklings at the duckpond again. This one mama duck had 13 babies. And the older babies are growing up. Happy almost July.

mmmm...smokey. so even though I was kind of in a bad mood after standing around at work doing NOTHING for four hours and then studying for 3.5 and then sitting in the testing center taking a test that I knew would probably take more than two hours but I was supposed to be leaving in one, tonight was good. I was kind of worried about the calmness level of the people I had kept waiting. actually only the one. but it was good. I am done with this term. hallelujah. don't get me wrong, I definitely do not mind Greek and Roman mythology. especially when I actually focus. and Adrianne Malan is an incredibly enthusiastic teacher for a boring english class. but I'm glad I'm done. for one weekend. and I don't even get to miss a day of work. sheesh. anyway, provo canyon is really pretty. this place that the people Alex works with is really nice and secluded and it's good to get away for a little bit, even with a big group of people. lots of guys with farmer tans, lemme tell ya...

make way for ducklings!

We were walking home from the bookstore and saw ducklings at the duck pond!!! So we had to take some pictures. Here are just a few. pretty flowers and water, no ducks. these duckies were super small, and super cute too. they swam really fast, their little legs were flying. the turtle log flipped over and they were trying to get back on the log but it kept flipping over, it was really fun and sad to watch, eventually they got it on the right side and were all able to climb back on. :) the duckies all got out of the water for a couple of minutes to shake themselves dry. this mama duck was sitting on her eggs and she wasn't very happy with everyone walking by. she was hissing at everyone. it was really funny though, one of the other ducks stopped to quack with her on the way to the pond, it was like he was telling her to hang in there or something. he's cute. alex and me close to the duck pond.

it's only a paper moon

Here's a semi-intellectual post... Has anyone read "A Streetcar Named Desire"? It's got to be one of the most intensely depressing and thought provoking American plays ever written, with extreme look into family dynamics and what makes a person who they are, and why people stay. I've read the play, Tennessee Williams, although very troubled (and understandably, he had a pretty messed up life) was amazing. So, I had to watch the movie for a class, and I was incredibly disappointed with the ending. The entire screenplay was true to the play. Yet I think that it failed to do a few things with the characters. 1) Stanley Kowalski, to me, is not an animal. Yes, he's a jerk. No, he should not have done what he did. However, he does have a mind. And Stella does love him and believe that he has potential. 2) Blanche. You can't help but dislike the woman. Yet at the same time you have to pity her, and have some empathy for the her in the life that's been thrown ...

I used to do this all the time. Seriously, all the time ...but then college came along and seriously, who has anything to talk about once they get to school? Everybody. I've never used a real blog site before though, so please bear with me... Somehow I feel the need to introduce myself. I'm just your average college student, except I avoided the majors that most people flock to because they think that they'll make a lot of money. Instead, I'm studying Humanities (love. History, Art, Music, Literature, Architecture...things that people just should not live without), History, Italian (รจ una lingua bella, penso che tutte le persone debbano parlare), and now I'm deciding between Geography and Anthropology as minors. Tough choice. No, I'm not sure what I want to do when I'm done with college, however the majority of people who are in career oriented majors don't even know that, so I'm in good shape. I love reading. I love music--but not twangy country or ...
